University of Tasmania
University of Tasmania (UTAS) was founded in 1890 is one of Australia’s oldest tertiary institutes for which it earned itself the esteemed title of a sandstone university. The University celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2015. Every year UTAS’s alumni and friends gift to the University of Tasmania Foundation, as a result of that approximately 500 students are awarded scholarships to achieve excellence in research.
The University also has exchange arrangements with over 90 countries across Europe, Asia and North America in order to offer students a global experience during their studies. UTAS also works with various countries to conduct research regarding significant global issues. UTAS’s researchers and post-graduate students work on projects tourism in China, aquaculture in Vietnam, forestry in Indonesia, computing in Korea, cardiovascular disease with the World Health Organisation, global warming (with NASA) and mineral resources projects in 17 countries. There is also a formal partnership between UTAS and the Tasmanian State Government, formed with the purpose of developing Tasmania economically, culturally and socially.
