University of Maine
Established in 1865, the University of Maine is the state's land and sea grant institution that today remains among the major public universities in the nation. Aside from being Maine's center for research, it is composed of 6 schools and colleges through which the university offers over 100 baccalaureate majors and minors, as well as 80 master's degree programs in academic areas such as business, engineering, natural sciences, forestry and agriculture, education and human development, liberal arts and sciences.
Attracting more than 11,000 students from 49 states and 63 foreign countries, the University of Maine has one of the most diverse university population in the state. With over 150 years of academic experience, the University of Maine offers one of the oldest honors programs in the country. Its campus is also home to many unique cultural facilities; Maine's largest fine arts collection, library, planetarium and telescope can all be found at the University of Maine.
