University of Lynchburg
Lynchburg College (LC) was founded in 1903 by Dr Josephus Hopwood, as Virginia Christian College. The college was established with the assistance and support of the Disciples of Christ ministers and businessmen, which is why the college still maintains an association with the Christian Church. Virginia Christian College changed its name to Lynchburg College to avoid being confused with another college of the same name and to signify its growth beyond Virginia.
LC has evolved into a private, independent residential college with a student body of 2,800 belonging to 38 US states and 15 foreign countries. LC’s students have the option to choose from 40 undergraduate majors, 57 minors and 18 graduate programs. LC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degrees.
