Purdue University

School Description

Purdue University was established in 1869 under the newly created Morrill Act. The University is named after John Purdue, a local businessman who donated the land and money to create this University. The University commenced in 1874 with then only 6 teachers and 40 students.

Today, the University has well over 38000 students and more than 3000 academic staff. The school is famous for being a place for imagination, innovation and ingenuity. Its alumni include well-known individuals such as Neil Armstrong and Gus Grissom, both astronauts; Edward Mills Purcell and Ben Roy Mottelson, who both received Nobel Prizes in Physics and Akira Suzuki, another Nobel Prize winner, in chemistry.
