School Description

King’s College London was founded as a university college in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington (Prime Minister, at the time). Throughout the 19th century, the institution made impactful contributions to society: King’s professors were key players in developments in science, and the university was a major player in extending higher education to women. King’s expanded its reach and influence over the years through mergers with other institutions such as Queen Elizabeth College, Chelsea College, and United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Today King’s College is ranked 21st in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2016-17, and is renowned for its world-leading, groundbreaking research. In 2004, King’s College celebrated its 175th anniversary.

There are over 27,600 students at King’s College London, from approximately 150 different countries. With over 100 student societies for incoming students to join, there is never a dull moment on campus. Whether it be politics or comedy, students are bound to find a society that fits their interests. Additionally, there is the monthly newspaper, a podcasting society, and many more opportunities for interests to be explored. Support also comes in the form of peer-to-peer support, counselling services, tutoring, and career services.
