School Description

Founded in 1890, American University today is a highly ranked, internationally recognized university whose students are among the country's politically active. Attracting about 13,200 students from all 50 states and 129 countries around the world each year, American University is composed of seven major schools and colleges through which it offers 69 bachelor's degree and 73 master's degree programs in areas such as arts and sciences, business, communication, international service, public affairs, and law. American University's Washington campus encompasses 90 acres of land housing 41 major buildings, arts center, and 10 residence halls that can accommodate approximately 3,500 students. Living on-campus provides for plenty of exciting global opportunities to experience the culture. Located in the heart of a safe, upscale neighborhood, American University is just a short trip away from other major cities, nightlife and shopping destinations, stadiums and theaters, and other major historical destinations.

Unlike most US universities, American University does not evaluate SAT or ACT scores for international students. However, you will be required to demonstrate your English language proficiency through an acceptable score in an accredited English language test such as the IELTS or TOEFL exam. Should you need assistance in meeting these requirements, it is recommended that you enroll in one of American University's International Accelerator Programs (IAP), which is designed to provide international students with a thorough preparation for a student life in the US by further training them in terms of their academics and proficiency in the English language, all while earning credit hours towards their future bachelor's degree program at the American University.

1994-1995, MA Journalism and Public Affairs

My AU education led to a satisfying career in Journalism. .

What I liked best about AU? Great instructors, incredibly sophisticated training in government affairs in Washington, DC, the home of American politics; AU's international environment, and my very special classmates from around the world. Work was tough but it paid off for me. My only regret is that I can't do it all over again! I do miss my days at AU! Sigh.
