School Description

Western Washington University (WWU) is home to over 15,000 students. Students can choose from a wide range of master's degree programs including Environmental Studies, Business Administration, Language and Literacy, Creative Writing, and Computer Science. Focused on providing a hands-on and intensive learning experience, students are offered well-equipped computer labs, cloud-based storage, scientific instruments, and media production tools. WWU's Careers Services Center offers Viking CareerLink, an online job and internship posting database, where students can explore over 11,000 career opportunities. Graduate students can choose to reside in safe, affordable, and suitable on-campus and off-campus accommodation. Some WWU alumni include Billy Burke, American actor known for his role as Charlie Swan in the Twilight Saga film series; and Death Cab for Cutie, an American alternative rock band.

        Small classes, challenging, great location, terrific professors, opportunities abound for extracurricular activities. Students come here to gain a higher education and this creates a unique environment for those who want to grow and develop while feeling supported by faculty, staff and other students.         I am not going to knock big schools. They have their place, but they are more impersonal due to size. 700 people in a 100 Level Sociology Class is not my cup of tea. WWU is a State University that maintains an enrollment of about 15,000 students. This provides a more intimate learning environment where Professors teach most classes and not Graduate Students. You have the opportunity to get to know people. The pace of life in Bellingham is not double clocked like big city schools. There are no Fraternities or Sororities at Western. If you want these, go elsewhere. Having spent a couple quarters in Community College out of high school, and then transferring to University of Washington, after a couple quarters I quickly learned another lesson regarding Universities - personal relevancy. UW whose Computer Science program at the time was part of the Engineering School. I am not saying that UW is not relevant; it was not relevant for me. Had I wanted to learn ...
