Small classes, challenging, great location, terrific professors, opportunities abound for extracurricular activities. Students come here to gain a higher education and this creates a unique environment for those who want to grow and develop while feeling supported by faculty, staff and other students. Great communications department!

I am not going to knock big schools. They have their place, but they are more impersonal due to size. 700 people in a 100 Level Sociology Class is not my cup of tea. WWU is a State University that maintains an enrollment of about 15,000 students. This provides a more intimate learning environment where Professors teach most classes and not Graduate Students. You have the opportunity to get to know people. The pace of life in Bellingham is not double clocked like big city schools. There are no Fraternities or Sororities at Western. If you want these, go elsewhere. Having spent a couple quarters in Community College out of high school, and then transferring to University of Washington, after a couple quarters I quickly learned another lesson regarding Universities - personal relevancy. UW whose Computer Science program at the time was part of the Engineering School. I am not saying that UW is not relevant; it was not relevant for me. Had I wanted to learn ...
