School Description

Ursuline College was founded in 1871 by Mother Mary of the Annunciation Beaumont of the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland. The Ursuline Sisters arrived in Cleveland in 1850, from France, for the establishment of the first religious teaching community in Cleveland. They then felt women needed a higher learning institute, seeing which Mother Mary, the first superior of the Cleveland Ursulines, acquired a charter from the state of Ohio to start a college. It was one of the first Catholic women’s colleges in the United States and the very first of its kind in Ohio.

Ursuline College offered its first graduate program in 1982 in one discipline and today it offers a graduate degree in Art Therapy and Counseling, Education, Historic Preservation, Liberal Studies, Ministry, Business Management and Nursing, to a graduate student body of more than 1500. The majority portion of the student population consists of women, however, 9% of the undergraduate student body are men and 27% students belong to numerous minority groups

Ursuline makes a difference in who you are as a person.

I am still active in college functions and always plan to be involved. Currently, I am the chairperson of the Alumnae Annual Fund Board and an officer on the Alumnae Board. Coming back to campus always grounds me and makes me remember that I had a great start here. Values, Voice, Vision.
