School Description

University of the Cumberlands was founded in 1888, by a group of Baptist Ministers in Kentucky. The School was originally called the Williamsburg Institute. Cumberland College was officially established in 1913, following the acquisition of Highland College; it was renamed the University of the Cumberlands in 2005.

The University is now open to the world owing to the addition of online learning. Over the years Cumberlands has produced two governors, five military generals, an admiral, five college and university presidents, a Congressman, ministers, missionaries, legislators, judges and more.

    University of the Cumberlands established ‘Mountain Outreach’, a non-profit service organisation in 1982. As part of this program, students and volunteers have completed 147 home building projects as well as renovations to hundreds more. The program’s outreach includes numerous service projects that help provide children, the elderly, and financially struggling families with critical and urgent needs.
