School Description

University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) was established in 1869, under the Morrill Act as a land grant institution. Over the years the University gradually expanded, even opening a farm campus (a short distance from the city campus) in 1873. In 1902 the institute merged with Omaha city’s then-ailing Medical College and over the years more structures were added to the University.

Over the years the university saw tremendous development; its farm campus became East Campus, housing the colleges of Law and Dentistry, the Barkley Memorial Center for Hearing and Speech Disorders, the Division of Continuing Studies and the Nebraska Educational Television Network.

Today the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is listed as ‘Research Universities’ by the Carnegie Foundation – meaning it has very high research activity. The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Nebraska is a place where you can get an education that puts you on equal footing with graduates from any other major university in the country. One of the great things about Nebraska is the value that you receive. An education here doesn't have to result in a lifetime of student debt. Another great thing is the faculty and staff. Having graduated from the Biological Systems Engineering department and obtained a masters degree in Civil Engineering, I was blessed to work with excellent people in both departments. Each department felt like a second family. I owe much of my success to the great people in both those departments. Another great thing is the campus. The scenery and facilities are fantastic and only getting better.

The first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful landscaping. I mean let's face it, having to walk outside between classes is a whole lot nicer when you've got some pretty grounds to look at! Also, I have very fond memories of working with instructors who were passionate about the subjects they were teaching. Dr. Patrice Berger was a gifted history teacher, and Ms. Susan Brodie did a fine job of encouraging her students to think outside the lines in her Expository Writing class. There were so many members of the faculty who took a serious interest in encouraging students to apply themselves to their program of learning. My alma mater totally rocks when it comes to motivating students to give everything they've got to their education and career planning.

Great preparation for business and giving back to the community. What I like most is quickly captured by the title of this recommendation. Through my Undergraduate BA in Marketing (Lincoln) and my Executive MBA (Omaha) Nebraska prepared me for a successful Fortune 500 business career but also helped develop me personally in giving back to the community.
