University of Memphis(U of M) is a public research school based at Normal Station neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, US. University of Memphis offers 17 undergraduate, and 54 graduate degree programmes in more than 250 areas of study. Master's courses are offered in fifty-five specializations through six colleges and two schools. University of Memphis degree programmes are accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

School Description

University of Memphis was established in the year 1912 as West Tennessee State Normal School. The school's establishment was equipped with various facilities like the library, dining hall, and men's dorm over a decade after its establishment. In 1946, the college was renamed to Memphis State College, and in 1954 it adapted to a semester system from a quarter system after administering its first graduate programs . 1957 was a breakthrough for the school when it was deemed a full university status and it came to be known as Memphis State University. Memphis State University was renamed to University of Memphis in 1994 and received full accreditation covering all its disciplines and programmes.
Today, University of Memphis is known as one of Tennessee's three comprehensive extensive schools of higher education. It is one of the 45 schools in the Tennessee Board of Regents system, and ranks as seventh largest university of higher education in the US. University of Memphis has a student enrollment of 21,059 students of which 17,068 are undergraduate and 3,991 are graduate students coming from over 87 countries and 50 states. University of Memphis has a vast campus covering 1,607 acres of land with 239 building structures at eight sites. With over 250 organizations and clubs available to participate in and 25 sororities and fraternities to be a member of, student life at University of Memphis is happening and very exciting .
