School Description

The University of Hull was established in 1927 and granted a Royal Charter in 1954, making it England’s fourteenth-oldest university. Rich in tradition, our University has a proud heritage of academic excellence and a history of creating and inspiring transformative impact. Our Wilberforce Institute for the study of Slavery and Emancipation received The Queen's Anniversary Prize for its world-leading work. For the last two years the Times Higher Education placed us among the top 3% of universities in the world; 97% of our international graduates are in work or further study within six months of completing their studies (HESA - Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey 2017).

With more than 13,000 students, the University of Hull attracts and nurtures high-achieving individuals, equipping and empowering them to strive for excellence in their studies and for their career ahead. We celebrate our international connections and our students who join us from all over the world. This year, one in six students on campus came from outside the UK and from more than 100 different countries – and we teach hundreds of students overseas too.

We are committed to providing our students with top-class facilities and an ideal environment in which to live and learn, which is why we are undergoing a £200-million project to dramatically improve our buildings and facilities. Our new luxury student accommodation, The Courtyard, is now open, with an even bigger, £130-million accommodation complex coming on our west campus soon. Our £28-million health campus, spearheaded by the state-of-the-art Allam Medical Building, opened in September 2017. We also spent £9.5 million on turning Middleton Hall into one of the region’s best performance venue and cinema.

Our self-contained and compact campus is just 2 miles north of the city centre of Hull – a dynamic city with a reputation for friendliness and affordability (voted the cheapest place for student housing in the UK), as well as UK City of Culture 2017. Our bustling city is a stone’s throw from some of the country’s most glorious countryside, as well as expansive coastlines. Hull also has efficient transport links, making it an easy place to get to and around, as well as explore the rest of the UK and mainland Europe, offering the best of all worlds - an ideal place to spend your student years.
