School Description

University of Gloucestershire’s history dates back to 1847 when it started as Cheltenham Training College, founded by Reverend Francis Close. Since then the institute has gone through many stages of evolution, in 1921 it turned into St Paul’s and St Mary’s Colleges and in 1990 it became the Gloucester College of Higher Education. In 2001 it achieved university status and was named the University of Gloucestershire. The University welcomed staff and students from all faiths while maintaining close connections with their Christian heritage.

The University forms a number of business and strategic partnerships such as the Strategic Alliance; a partnership between the University of Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and Gloucestershire College. This partnership aims to, make Higher Education more accessible for students and to form strong links with businesses in order for the students to fulfill the local business needs. Another similar partnership, known as the Knowledge Transfer Partnership, is a government funded project which aims to place exemplary graduates in companies in order to undertake projects of strategic importance to the company.
