School Description

CSI opened in 1976 through the union of two existing colleges—Staten Island Community College and Richmond College. Staten Island Community College, the first community college in the University, opened in 1956.

            , Great Memorable Rewarding Experience...

            What I liked most about the University was the interest and support system the professors had developed for their students. Encouraging the students to attend the free study and tutoring sessions, if they had the need to, which would help them with their class work. I took advantage of the tutoring classes, held by other student who volunteered their time to help. All of the programs were great and you made many friends along the way. The Veterans Club was very helpful for me when I enrolled at the College Campus, there was a lot of energy and support. I had a lot of responsibility while attending college, raising a family, working full time, and Marine Corps Reserves, along with other activities. I don't know how I managed, but I guess it was from my Marine Corps training and discipline as a Vietnam Veteran. My experience at the college will always be memorable.

            I attended CSI when they were building the new campus so my graduating class was between old CSI Ocean Terrace and Victory Blvd. Thinking back it was neat having dump truck tail gates slamming and dumping rocks right in the middle of an exam. As far as the academics, top notch. I’m a network engineer and a lot of my skills are stilled used every day, binary, hex, subnet masking, packet capture and so much more. Professor Schanker and staff gave me the foundation to succeed. I can also remember the free study and tutoring sessions, there’s also so many places to sit down and study. What a great job they’ve done with that school.
