School Description

South Dakota State University (SDSU) was founded in 1881 owing to a local and national legislation that dates back to 1862, called the Morrill Act. The legislation was passed by Congress and signed by President Abraham Lincoln. The legislation gave way to a revolutionized education institute, one which delivered teaching in the form of liberal and practical arts and catered to people who needed to make a living. SDSU was given university status when on July 1, 1964, when the South Dakota Legislature changed its name from South Dakota State College to South Dakota State University.

SDSU is South Dakota’s largest and most comprehensive institute for higher education. In the fall of 2015 the University had an influx of 12,589 students from all 50 US states, as well as 81 other countries. The students have the a vast variety of options to choose from as SDSU provides 73 majors, 75 minors, 36 specializations, 33 master’s programs, 15 Ph.D programs and two professional doctorates. The Higher Learning Commission has granted SDSU a full ten-year reaccreditation. SDSU has often been commended by various accrediting teams for having a dedicated faculty and staff, quality facilities, excellent student leadership and a successful transition to NCAA Division I Athletics.

It has been quite a few years since I last attended SDSU. The professors were hard working, caring and demanding. This university is geared to demand success while giving you a broad range of activities to fulfill your social and athletic desires. In difficult times the professors still demanded performance, but gave great advice to complete their demands. I still apply many of the strategies as a business creator, owner and manager.
