School Description

Roger Williams University's history dates back to 1919 when it was first opened as a branch campus of the Northeastern University. In the year 1948, after closing briefly during the second world war, the institution was granted its first associate's degree by the YMCA Institute, who took over the school 8 years prior. The institution first began awarding bachelor's degrees during the 1960s under the name Roger Williams College. Its namesake, Roger Williams was a 17th-century who founded a community in Rhode Island based on the principles of conscience of freedom and social justice. In 1992, the college became Roger Williams University.

Today, Roger Williams University's campus in Bristol, Rhode Island sits on a 143-acre land overlooking the Mount Hope Bay that houses eight schools focusing on areas of business, arts and sciences, architecture, art and historic preservation, engineering, computing and construction management, justice studies, education, continuing studies, and law. With more than 70 clubs and 22 varsity athletic teams for almost 5,000 students, over 20% of which are non-Whites, Roger Williams University a tight-nit community that fosters a unique educational experience inside and outside the classroom.
