          • Testimony
            1986-1989, Bachelor's Degree

When I was a 35+ mother with 4 young children, PLU provided the opportunity to complete my undergraduate degree. Under the guidance of excellent mentorship from PLU faculty after completing my undergrad degree, they directed me to seek doctoral training. I completed a Duel PhD in Soc & Demography at PSU, minor in Gerontology, received a NIA pre-doctoral fellowship, a summer internship at NIA, then a Post-doctoral fellowship from NIA. Never when I began my journey at PLU did I see speaking at Oxford, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Seoul Government, or the opportunities in Asia in my future....but the PLU faculty saw/encourage something in me. PLU provided a strong foundation provided by the faculty and as a Chair & faculty one of my greatest pleasures is returning the circle of mentoring by going back to the foundations provided by the excellent Pacific Lutheran University faculty, and to those ratty binders which hold both their words and memories. Thank you PLU for setting me off on a wonderful highway of life. You took a middle-aged woman, taught her skills to think critically and objectively, set her on a path to make an inquiring scientist, scholar, administrator, entrepreneur, international visionary, speaker, advocate, and citizen. I thank you for helping me start my journey.

            1999-2003, Bachelor's Degree

PLU is the perfect landing place for the intelligent 18 year old who is growing into themselves as a person. I was given the best of educations in and out of the classroom. The Lutedome protected and nurtured me while the classroom grew my mind and instilled a world perspective that today allows me to navigate with everyone from intellectuals to artistic types to scientific guru's! The international program at PLU is second to none, everyone should participate. My 2002 trip to Cuba is still a resume highlight and conversation piece in all of my work negotiations. I am a LUTE FOR LIFE! At work, at home and in my heart!

          • Testimony
            2010-2013, Bachelor's Degree

As a Transitioning Service member PLU provided me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to land a wonderful job as a Biologist with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service where I worked to save threatened and endangered species across the Pacific Northwest. I respected PLU so much for their efforts in supporting me and our nations veterans that I decided to join them. PLU is the perfect place for transitioning veterans and their families to land after military service. PLU will help them become acclimated to the civilian culture, and prepare them to launch into the next chapter of their grand adventure.
