School Description

Old Dominion University's early beginnings can be traced back from the year 1930 when it was established by the College of William and Mary, the United States' second oldest university, as an extension of William and Mary in Williamsburg and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. At the time, the institution offered education to engineers and teachers before achieving independence as Old Dominion College in 1962. Its Board of Visitors approved its university status following the considerable growth the institution has achieved throughout the years.

Today, Old Dominion University's main campus in Norfolk is home to its 7 colleges through which the university offers 70 bachelor's degree and 54 master's degree programs to nearly 25,000 students, almost 5% of which are international students from 180 countries across the world, who are all training in areas such as arts and letters, business, education, engineering and technology, health sciences, and sciences.

            Excellent school for your money!!!

The tuition here is affordable, and the education you will receive will measure up to other well known schools in the area for less cost!! I really love the friendly staff, as well as the array of different degree options!! The added bonus is they offer many types of degrees online, it is one of the only online schools I found online in VA that was accredited!!!!

            Distance Learning Program

I was glad to be able to attend ODU at the John Tyler Site. It was very convenient and fit my busy schedule. It was nice to have an advisor that was always there for guidance. It was a wonderful experience in getting my college degree in a non traditional way. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is not able to attend the Norfolk campus but still wants to pursue their degree. One of the best things I have ever done!

            Just as Good as Princeton

With my degree from ODU, I was able to work alongside Princeton graduates in the same role without racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debts. Once you graduate, the only thing that matters is how long it will take you to pay off your student loans. I'm one of the lucky ones; I'll be done paying off my student loans before I die unlike my friends who graduated from Ivy League schools--and they make the same amount of money as me. Thanks ODU!
