School Description

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) was founded in 1890 as a land-grant institution, under the Second Morrill Act which mandated ‘a separate college for the colored race’. Hence, the Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race (now NC A&T) was officially established on March 9, 1891. In 1915, state legislators changed the college’s name to the Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina; and in 1967 elevated it to university status. NC A&T became a constituent university of the University of North Carolina in 1972.

Today NC A&T offers 55 undergraduate degrees through its 8 colleges and schools of Agriculture & Environmental Science, Arts & Sciences, Business & Economics, Education, Engineering, Nursing, and Technology. At a graduate level NC A&T offers 23 Masters concentrations through 31 degree programs through its 7 schools and colleges in Agriculture & Environmental Science, Arts & Sciences, Business & Economics, Education, Engineering, Joint School of Nano-science & Nano-engineering, and Technology. North Carolina A&T State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
