School Description

Lake Forest College was founded in the year 1857, when a group of Presbyterian ministers hopped on a northbound train from Chicago in order to find a suitable location for a new community they wanted to build. Originally called the Lake Forest University until the remainder of the 19th century, and was renamed to Lake Forest College following the gradual reengineering of the institution from a university to college so as to emphasize its undergraduate liberal arts focus.

Today, Lake Forest College's 107-acre campus houses 10 residence halls that accommodate nearly 80% of the college's 1,573 students representing 44 states and 76 countries. It offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors and minors in over 50 academic concentrations, and master's degree in liberal studies and teaching. Lake Forest College employs almost 200 faculty members, 99% of which are holders of a Ph.D or its equivalent.
