School Description

High Point University was established in 1924. The University was the result of a co-operative venture between the Methodist Protestant Church and the City of High Point. High Point had three partially completed buildings with nine faculty members and a student enrollment of 122. The University surged forward, with great confidence in its ideals of educating its students through the Methodist Church teachings. Unfortunately, the great depression was a difficult time for the university as faculty went as long as 15 years with arrears and the students were paying tuition in chickens, pigs, and vegetables.

By the end of the decade, the situation was getting better for the University and a library and gymnasium facilities had been added, and an athletic stadium was constructed. During World War II, the College hosted the 326th College Training Detachment of the US Army Air Force. Financial stability ultimately returned. Today, High Point University has 122 buildings, a full-time faculty of 300, and approximately 4,600 students.

The Best Decision I Ever Made

Choosing to attend HPU was the best decision I ever made. The moment I stepped onto campus, I knew this was the academic institution for me. The atmosphere automatically makes you feel as though it is a university that offers as many opportunities as the student would like to have (even if you have to create them yourself!). Numerous jobs, internships, volunteer and leadership positions later, I cannot wait to complete my senior year and see how my diploma and the experience I've gained thanks to the university, will benefit me in my professional career.

            Excellent University

High Point University allowed me to expand my knowledge base and support my career path. My son and daughter-in-law are also graduates of the University and their success is linked to their education. I recommend this Institution to anyone who is looking for an extraordinary learning experience.

Great School for Returning Older Students

I went back to school in 1994 to get my business degree. I chose High Point because its a local school with a great reputation. I attended the satellite school in Winston-Salem, loved the classes and was able to finish in 3 years. The classes are at night so it fits most working adults schedules.
