School Description

Florida State University was founded in the year 1851 after the passing of Legislative Act in the state of Florida to establish two institutes of higher education seminaries for training men and women in the art of teaching. The school's name was changed several times up until 1947 when it was given "university" status by the Legislature in the year 1947. 

Florida State University is one of the only two officially designated Preeminent universities in the State of Florida. Florida State University's 1600-acre college campus houses 16 separate colleges that altogether administer 360 programmes of study at the bachelor and master's level. Florida State University at present has enrolled about 1,700 international students from different countries across the world. Among the notable alumni of Florida State University are singer-songwriter James Morrison, author and journalist Hunter S. Thompson, and Spanx apparel line founder Sara Blakely. The “Florida State Seminoles” sports teams compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference.
