Florida Southern College (FSC), affiliated with the United Methodist Church, is a liberal arts and sciences college, situated in the safe and incredibly inviting community between Tampa and Orlando in the heart of Florida’s high-tech corridor. FSC offers over 50 undergraduate majors and pre-professional programs, along with graduate programs in business, nursing, and education.

School Description

Florida Southern College (FSC), originally South Florida Institute, was founded in 1883 in Orlando, shortly before moving to Leesburg. The institute adopted a college curriculum in 1885, and in 1901 moved to a new location in Sutherland (now known as Palm Harbor). In 1906, South Florida Institute was renamed Southern College. The college temporarily moved to Clearwater in 1921; it moved again 1922 to the shores of Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland. In 1935, the college took on its present name Florida Southern College.

Today, Florida Southern College is the oldest private college in Florida. The College currently enrolls 2,550 undergraduate and 310 graduate students represented by nearly every state in the US as well as 50 foreign countries. The College is home to 80 clubs and organisations, a thriving arts community and 19 varsity sports. Florida Southern College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
