Drew University was founded in 1867 as a seminary. In 1928 the College of Liberal Arts was added to the University. The school started out as a college just for men but turned in to a co-educational institute in the 1940s. In the 1980s it was granted the Phi Beta Kappa chapter, which is still just the fourth chapter in the region. In 1955, the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies was added, the school opened with the aim of providing advanced study in the field of humanities. Drew offers a unique blend of educations via its distinctive bunch of schools, a classic liberal arts college, a humanities-centric school and a theology school.
Today the three schools together have an enrollment of 2,113 students and employ 145 full-time faculty members. The College of Liberal Arts however is the largest department in Drew, with 1,417 students and 130 full-time faculty members. Drew offers its undergraduate students remarkable opportunities through the Charles A. Dana Research Institute for Scientists Emeriti (RISE) which is home to the 2015 Nobel Prize Winner for Medicine and Drew Fellow William Campbell; the Drew Summer Science Institute, the Centre for Civic Engagement and numerous international semester programs. Drew is accredited by the Midle States Commission on Higher Education. Drew’s Theological school, which offers master’s and doctoral degrees is also accredited by the Association of Theological Schools. The Caspersen School, which also offers master’s and doctoral programs is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

A place for emotional and intellectual growth
The further I get away from my years at Drew, the more I realize how special it is. The classes are small- you are never just a number and you are treated as a peer. It is challenging, engaging and the liberal arts environment allows for you to learn about a variety of subjects, not just the silo of your major. I am still in touch with several of my professors, and I am so grateful to have their continued guidance.
Drew University built me a strong foundation for career success!
I'd like to sum up some of the things that I appreciate most about Drew University; student diversity, exposure to new and exciting fields of study, top quality professors and great leadership! I came out of Drew with the knowledge and preparedness needed to succeed in a corporate environment. Professors were outstanding and will go above and beyond to help students who are interested and involved in their education. If college were to happen again, Drew would be my top choice!
