School Description

Cornell University was founded 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White. 45 Nobel laureates affiliated with Cornell as faculty members or alumni. Morrill Hall was the first building it constructed on the main Ithaca campus in 1868; today the Ithaca Campus includes 608 buildings on more than 2000 acres. Today Cornell has seven undergraduate units and four graduate and professional units in Ithaca, two medical graduate and professional units in New York City, and one in Doha, Qatar. Cornell has had many firsts over the years such as: Cornell endowed the nation’s first professorships in American history, musicology, and American literature. Established the first four-year schools of hotel administration and industrial and labor relations. Awarded the world’s first degree in journalism, the nation's first degree in veterinary medicine, and the first doctorates in electrical and industrial engineering. The first US University to offer a major in American studies. The first university to teach modern Far Eastern languages – Cornell's IMPAC program now provides intensive study of Mandarin Chinese. And the solution to the Poincaré Conjecture, one of the most famous problems in mathematics, was first posted on Cornell's arXiv.org. 45 Nobel laureates are affiliated with Cornell as faculty members or alumni.

          • Testimony
            2000-2000, Marketing Management

I was fortunate enough to study part of the hospitality PDP and undoubtedly my experience was rewarding from all professional points of view. Over the years I have been able to implement a lot of what I have learned and much further, my experience at Cornell have helped me opening my professional perspective for other industries in which I have worked in the past and that I work today.

          • Testimony
            1990-1995, MS

When Ezra Cornell wrote these words in 1868, he may not have known that they would stand as true 150 years later as they did then. My time at Cornell taught me that a school's most valuable trait is its diversity -- in studies, in instructors, in student body, and in CU's case, in its weather. No matter how many times a Cornell student may change his or her mind about where to point his or her ship, s/he will find an inspiring mentor, an avid student interest, and an excellent reputation. You couldn't ask for a better life and work foundation (in that priority order) in today's restless world. Don't hesitate for a second. Apply now and you'll be glad you did, wherever life takes you.
