School Description

The college started with the vision presented in 1913, at the National Baptist Convention; the year 1921 saw the purchase of land and in a couple of years, the facilities were constructed. Soon the institute began as 'American Baptist Theological Seminary'. The college made civil rights champions, national leaders and outstanding Christian ministers. Some of these students such as Jim Bevels, Julius Scruggs,Bernard Lafayette William Barbee and John Lewis served on the front line of the Nashville Student Sit-In movement for justice and change.
