School Description

Albany State University is a historically black institution in Southwest Georgia. The University was originally established as Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute in 1903 to educate African-American youth. Albany State University has a liberal arts foundation. The school’s global learning is fostered through a broad-based curriculum, diverse ASU activities, and extensive use of technology.

Today Albany State University is a unit of the University System of Georgia. The University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has certain academic programs accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE); Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP); Council of Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP); American Academy of Forensic Sciences (FEPAC); Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN); American Chemical Society (ACS); and Accreditation for Counseling and Related Education Program (CACREP).
