School Description

Kapi‘olani Community College was established in 1946 as the Kapi‘olani Technical School. Inaugurated by the Territorial Department of Instruction with a focus on food service. In 1959, 3 programs were added: practical nursing, business education and dental assisting. In 1965 Kapi‘olani Community College realigned its academic mission and joined the University of Hawai‘i community college system. Due to its rapid growth, initiated the need for expansion in 1970.

Today, Kapi'olani Community College is the only college in the University of Hawaiʻi system to have two campuses of its own. Kapiʻolani Community College offers the state’s largest and most comprehensive academic program to allow students to complete courses towards a baccalaureate degree. Each year, KapCC transfers the largest number of students to four-year universities among all UH community colleges. KapCC offers a unique “dual admission” program which allows highly qualified students to be enrolled at KapCC and UH Mānoa simultaneously. KapCC is #1 among transfer students currently enrolled at the flagship University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
