School Description

Chemeketa Community College traces its history back to 1952 when it was opened as Salem school district and was started with the aim of providing training to the unemployed. Chemeketa Community College got its name from a competition held in 1969 to give the school a new name. In December 1969 the board of eduation approved to rename the school as "Chemeketa Community College" which means a peaceful gathering place.

Chemeketa Community College has expanded its campus network throughout the mid-valley region with six campuses and one business and industry center. Chemeketa Community College serves nearly 30,000 students each year in a district that covers 2,600 square miles in Marion, Polk, most of Yamhill, and part of Linn counties. Chemeketa Community College is home to about 175 international students that represent about 43 countries around the world.
