Central College was founded in 1853 by a group of immigrants from Netherlands who moved to central Iowa for religious freedom. With the aim of establishing an educational institution founded in Baptist values and beliefs, Central College first opened its doors in 1854 to just 34 students in a two-story building of only 3 basic classrooms.
