Program Description

The two-year sociology program at Capital University focuses on the understanding of human behavior, social and racial issues and pattern identifications within a society. Students must complete a total of 42 hours in order to graduate with a sociology major. This program also prepares students for professional careers in field and graduate programs.

During their study, students learn about human issues regarding sexuality, gender and deviance. Courses will also cover urban sociology and ethical problems in the field. Students also engage in classes regarding research methods, social theory and the application of statistics. Required seminars prepare students for life after graduation, including information on applying to graduate and law schools. As a final component, students also have the option of completing a thesis on their desired issue.

Students will work with primary sources and scholarly journals in preparation toward becoming great communicators. There are plenty of volunteer and honor societies on campus in which students may gain further experience in the field.
