Public Affairs (Capital University)
This major requires two years of study and instructs students in the art of communication, thus providing them a foundation for professional success. Students must participate in a total of 43 course hours in addition to a desired minor in order to graduate. At Capital University, courses prepare students on how to effectively communicate across public and digital platforms.
Classes under this major include information on public relation writing, research, ethics and design. Students also get a taste for web and print publishing as well as campaigning. Requirements include courses in video production, interpersonal communication, news writing, media and law. There will also be plenty of opportunities for professional development, as a capstone is required, which can include either an internship or client-based immersion. A required minor may also be replaced with four advisor-approved courses.
Many students chose to apply their public affairs education toward graduate programs. At the program’s conclusion, students leave with a deeper understanding of communicating in today’s changing world.
