California State University - San Marcos
Established in 1989, California State University San Marcos was the 20th campus in the CSU system and the first comprehensive university to be founded in two decades. At its early beginnings, it admitted just a little less than 500 students in its former site in Los Vallecitos Blvd.
California State University San Marcos is part of the California State University system, the largest comprehensive university system in the world, enrolling nearly half a million students in its 23 campuses combined. Today, California State University San Marcos' hillside campus in Twin Oaks Valley encompasses 304 acres of land overlooking the city of San Marcos and houses its 4 colleges through which it offers 68 bachelor's program majors and minors, as well as 11 master's degree programs in areas of humanities, arts, behavioral and social sciences, business administration, education, health and human services, science and mathematics. At present, it enrolls over 14,000 students, about 340 of whom are international or exchange students coming from countries such as China, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Korean, and India.
