Program Description

Studying psychology is attractive to students who want to work in mental health, forensics, research, and many other promising fields. The psychology department at California State University, Long Beach offers a Bachelor of Arts in the discipline, including a special honors program housed within the department specially designed for psychology students.

The degree can be completed within four years if students follow a typical timeline for undergraduate study. Lower division prerequisites include General Psychology, Introductory Statistics, Research Methods, and Psychobiology, and the degree requires a total of 120 credits for completion, 40 of which must be from upper division courses.

Some of the foundational courses in the major include Abnormal Psychology, Human Behavior and Sexuality, and Introduction to Criminality. Students must complete at least 12 of their upper division psychology units while in residence at CSULB, and upon completion, will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in the subject.
