Program Description

California State University, Long Beach boasts a chemistry department with distinguished faculty and accomplished students. The department offers undergraduate majors in chemistry and biochemistry, both of which lead to a Bachelor of Science degree. Students must successfully complete lower division science prerequisites before enrolling in upper division chemistry courses.

A Bachelor of Science degree from the chemistry department can be completed in four years. A total of 81 credits of upper-division coursework are required for the Bachelor of Science in chemistry degree, and 75 credits are required for the Bachelor of Science in biochemistry degree. The latter is not less work, though—the major simply requires fewer upper division courses, but the same number of credits are required for both.

Students interested in chemistry or biochemistry will find the department at CSULB attractive. Enroll in courses such as Intro to Molecular Biology, Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Analysis, General Chemistry, and Chemical Communications.
