Art History (California State University - Long Beach)
The California State University, Long Beach offers both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art history. The length of the program varies depending on the degree a person seeks and his or her level of education upon entering the program.
Art history courses may focus on a variety of subjects, including but not limited to, art and art techniques as they have evolved through the ages. The purpose of art history is to better understand and attain an appreciation for older pieces of art as well as the artists who created them. During their courses of studies, participants may learn to identify the age of a piece based on its style and the materials used to create it.
The courses a student will take depends, again, on his or her level of education. However, some program participants may take history of prints and drawings, history of ceramics, photography history and art throughout different regions, including the U.S., Rome and Greece.
