School Description

Established in 1949, California State University, Long Beach first opened its doors as the Los Angeles-Orange County State College. At the time, it enrolled just 160 students taught by 13 full-time faculty in an apartment on Anaheim Road. Through the years, the institution has gone through numerous name changes to keep up with its growing population and expanding academics before finally becoming California State University, Long Beach in 1972.

Today, California State University, Long Beach is part of the California State University system, the largest comprehensive university system in the world, enrolling nearly half a million students in its 23 campuses combined. Its 322-acre hilltop campus in Long Beach boasts of 80 permanent buildings that house its 8 colleges through which the university offers up to 85 baccalaureate majors and 67 master's degree programs in areas of arts, business administration, education, engineering, health and human services, liberal arts, natural sciences and mathematics.
