School Description

California State University Fresno (CSU) was founded in 1911; it was called Fresno State Normal School at the time. It turned in to a teacher’s college in 1921. Since 1949 it has provided students with advanced degrees. The University is popularly nicknamed ‘Fresno State.' The University boasts a Pulitzer Prize winning faculty member, and three ‘named’ school formed as result of multi-million dollar gifts and 13 endowed chairs. The University formed a partnership with Central California for which the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching awarded CSU a Community Engagement Classification. CSU enrolls over 22,000 students and provides them with a choice of 59 undergraduate and 44 master degree programs in a variety of academic and professional disciplines .CSU is accredited by WASC; Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Fresno State provides its student population with one of the best sports programs in California. The University mascot is the Bulldog and its Bulldog teams frequently appear in NCAA tournaments. Fresno State also accommodates the 16,000 seat Save Mart Center, which is one of the most popular concert venues in the world.
