School Description
Butte College was established in the year 1966 after passing of Donahoe Act in Butte county to cater the vocational and education needs of local community residents. Butte College started offering law enforcement, vocational nursing and fire science classes throughout Butte county from 1967 onwards. The school began operating as a community college in 1968 at the old Durham High School site with only 1,900 enrolled students before moving to its present campus site in the heart of Butte county.
Today, Butte College is recognized as a regionally accredited community college and its main campus spanning across 928 acres is said to be one of the largest community college campuses in California. Butte College offers over 180 academic certificates and associate degree programmes combined in areas of Business, Technology, Social Sciences, Arts, Science and more. Over the years Butte college has expanded and today it is fully equipped to serve about 13,000 students each semester on an average.
