Bloomfield College
School Description
Bloomfield College's history dates back to 1868 when it was founded by the Presbytery of Newark as the German Theological School with its first campus located on the grounds of the First German Presbyterian Church in Newark. In 1909, the institute was authorized by the New Jersey Legislature to grant its first Bachelor of Arts degrees as well as Bachelor of Divinity.
Through the years, the institute welcomed students who are interested in not only studying theology, but as well as gaining a stronger liberal arts foundation. After a series of name changes, it became the Bloomfield College in 1961. Today, the College ranks as the 14th most diverse National Liberal Arts College in all of United States with more than half of its 2,000 graduate and undergraduate students identifying as Black, Latino, or Asian. Bloomfield College currently offers over 60 majors and concentrations in seven academic divisions.
