School Description

University of Tulsa (TU) was founded in 1894 but its roots go back to 1882 with the establishment of a boarding school. The school was converted to a college in 1894 and called, Henry Kendall College. The College took new residence in Tulsa in 1907. A few years’ later plans for a new college in the city were underway which eventually resulted in the new college and Kendall College merging; the two colleges hence took on the name of University of Tulsa.

A charter for the University was approved on November 9, 1920, and in 1928, the University was established as an independent school corporation governed by a self-perpetuating board of trustees. Today, TU operates as an independent, nondenominational university.
