Program Description

The University of Illinois, Chicago, offers several engineering degree options for students to choose from. If students are interested in a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, the College of Engineering offers many options. Students may also choose to minor in the area. Options for a minor include bio-, chemical, civil, environmental, materials, electrical, computer, industrial or mechanical engineering. Scholars would require about 12 additional course hours, given that prerequisites are fulfilled.

Engineering majors at the school require around 128 credit hours on average, and they take about four years to complete. Students must fulfill non-engineering and engineering courses to complete any degree within the field. General education requirements include math, history, cultures and society, arts, and writing courses. They then include a group of courses most relevant to the engineering degree that the student pursues. Classes may cover chemistry, biology, physics, management, design, computers, or systems.

Engineering courses give students the opportunity to learn about statics, manufacturing, dynamics, circuit analysis, systems, design, and some major-specific topics. Many degrees also leave space for a few technical electives that give students the ability to choose some of their classes.
