Program Description

The field of engineering management applies the problem-solving aspect of engineering knowledge to the practical aspects of managing an engineering enterprise. Students who are seeking higher education may be interested in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management degree that the University of Illinois, Chicago, offers. In four years, students complete 128 credit hours split between general college requirements, College of Engineering requirements, and an elective outside of the major.

Students fulfill general education requirements that pertain to the engineering management major. Applicable classes include calculus, physics, chemistry, financial and managerial accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, organizations, marketing, strategy, and statistics.

Within the College of Engineering, students continue to build on their foundational knowledge and explore business principles to help them in engineering management. Some courses teach students about the work that he or she may oversee, while other courses focus on the managerial side of things. For example, students take statics and strength of materials courses, but they also take work productivity analysis and quality control classes.
