School Description

Founded in the year 1743, University of Delaware is among the United States' oldest existing universities. At the time, it operated as a small school in New London, Pennsylvania led by the Rev. Dr. Francis Alison to address the Presbytery of Lewes' need for an educated clergy. In 1843, it was renamed Delaware College following its relocation to Newark nearly eight decades prior until finally, in 1921, became the University of Delaware after merging with a women's college consisting of 58 students.

Today, University of Delaware's main campus in Newark covers 970 acres of land and consists of over 350 academic, administrative, and residence buildings. It also houses 7 colleges through which it offers 140 bachelor's degree and 71 master's degree programs in agriculture and natural resources, arts and sciences, business and economics, earth, ocean, and environmental studies, education and human development, engineering, and health sciences. University of Delaware currently enrolls 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students, nearly 40% of which are international students.
