School Description

University of Canterbury (UC) is New Zealand's second oldest university, having been founded as Canterbury College in 1873 by scholars from the universities of Cambridge and Oxford. In the 1970's, UC moved to its current campus in the suburb of Ilam in Christchurch. In 2007, UC merged with the neighboring Christchurch College of Education to form one of the five colleges of UC.

University of Canterbury has over 14,000 students with 80 nationalities represented. It is made up of seven dimensions called UC7, that help prepare its students to change the world. These dimensions are: Academic, Support, Enterprise, Global, Active, Bicultural, and Community. UC has exchange programs in over 50 destinations around the world. The many partnerships that UC has with universities around the world allows international students to study part of their qualifications in their home country and part at UC. The university also has an event dedicated to incoming international students called 'International Welcome'; which is an event organised at the start of the semester for new international students can get helpful information concerning their studies and the city.
