School Description

University College Cork (UCC) was established in 1845 as one of three Queen’s Colleges at Cork (QCC), Galway and Belfast; the Colleges were founded during the reign of Queen Victoria and hence named after her. QCC was part of the Queen’s University of Ireland from 1850, and from the 1880s it became part of the Royal University of Ireland. In the early twentieth century, the higher education landscape in Ireland introduced a change through the National University of Ireland (NUI), of which the former QCC, now University College Cork (UCC) is a founding member.

Today UCC is one of the top ranked universities in Ireland and also ranked among the top third-level institutions in the world. Over the years UCC has grown tremendously; today it has a student population of over 20,000; dozens of buildings and more than 1,600 staff members. Since 1997 UCC became a university in its own right within the NUI, but has nonetheless retained the UCC name as part of its heritage.

The subjects in my course are thought-provoking, expanding my previous economic and business studies. There is a great potential to apply the knowledge from the course in practice.
