School Description

Scripps College was founded by Ellen Browning Scripps, a pioneering philanthropist and influential figure in the worlds of education, publishing, and women’s rights. "The paramount obligation of a college," she believed, "is to develop in its students the ability to think clearly and independently, and the ability to live confidently, courageously, and hopefully. The motto of the college is "Incipit Vita Nova" ("Here Begins New Life") from Dante's New Life.

I will always look back on my time at Scripps as a very positive and impactful experience in my life (of course with ups and downs, it is college after all, but I couldn't imagine a better place for me to go through such an important developmental era). The faculty and staff, my classmates, and my friends across the 5Cs made my four years at Scripps so memorable and I still maintain great friendships. The academic environment is challenging and definitely pushes you out of your HS comfort zone, but that's so important and really helps to prepare you for the demanding work environment to come. Even when I was struggling in a class, my teachers were always there to match my efforts and help me reach the breakthrough I needed- our combined efforts achieved cum laude honors, and I couldn't have done it without their support. From cramming sessions in the beautiful common rooms to laying in the grass on the lawn and watching the sunset with friends, Scripps offers an environment that allows you to grow and balances the stress with beauty and community. I strongly recommend this school to others! Feel free to reach out to me to learn more :)

Scripps offers the best of a smaller college with a good student/teacher ratio along with the benefits of a larger university. The ability to take classes from any of the Claremont Colleges offers a unique opportunity for an excellent education and college experience.

Coming to Scripps from Alaska was a shock at first but it was one the best choices that I have ever made. I appreciated the small classes, individual attention, great study abroad program (I lived in Nepal!), and the beautiful campus.
