School Description

Randolph-Macon College was established in 1830 by the Methodist Church and by two statesmen: one was John Randolph of Virginia State and the other was Nathaniel Macon of North Carolina. Both of these statesmen gave their name to the university, but seeing as none of them were Methodist, their names were adopted to send a message that students from all domination were welcomed. Originally the School was located in Boydton, Virginia, but because of the Civil war the school moved to Ashland, in 1868. This move ensued with the students raising money from two new buildings in the new campus the University located to.

Today the University offers a robust undergraduate research, study-abroad, and internship programs. Athletics at Randolph-Macon has always been an integral part of the university. Till today the university takes part in the biggest rivalry football game in the south that attracts hundreds of fans.

Randolph-Macon College is a school that is first and foremost committed to the excellence of its students. With manageable class sizes each and every student has the fullest opportunity to make meaningful connections with professors and advisers in their major, to seek out meaningful internships, and to develop professional skills unlike at any other college. The educational requirements at RMC equip students to be astute critical thinkers, and problem solvers that will graduate to become both community and world influences. While at Randolph-Macon College I was able to make meaningful connections with the professors in the Religious Studies department that I still am able to maintain today as my life has shifted from student to colleague and as I pursue each new step of my career. I am extremely thankful for my four years in Ashland and would recommend Randolph-Macon to any student and family! Go Jackets!
