School Description

The institution now known as NMSU was founded as an agricultural land grant college in 1888. Then called the Las Cruces College, the school was renamed New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts just one year later. It received its current name in 1960 when it achieved university status. There are approximately 120,173 NMSU living alumni in the United States and around the world. Some notable alumni of NMSU include Alvy Ray Smith, co-founder of Pixar; Kevin Johnson, CEO, Juniper Networks; and Pervis Atkins, NFL Hall of Fame inductee.
