School Description

National College of Art and Design (NCAD) traces its origins to 1746 when a drawing school was taken over by the Dublin Society. Throughout the 18th and part of the 19th century, new schools were added, and in 1877 a new name was given to the institution – Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. Following that it changed its name a few more times until it became the National College of Art and Design in 1971. For a long time, the College has offered the widest range of Art and Design degrees in Ireland, making its position a unique one in the country.

Today, NCAD has around 1,600 students and a campus situated in the historic Liberties area of Dublin. It is ranked in the top 100 universities of the world for Art and Design, according to QS rankings. The most important thing about NCAD is that it has been the most significant provider of Art and Design education in Ireland for more than 250 years.
